KATIE NICOLE HARGROVE AWARDED WAYNE COUNTY RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

Katie Nicole Hargrove, daughter of Mike and BJ Mattox, is the 2020 Wayne County Retired Teachers Association Scholarship.  During her time at WCHS, Katie has been an active member of the Beta Club, the Interact Club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the softball team, and captain of the soccer team.  She is ranked 9th in the Class of 2020, has been awarded Highest Average in English, and Wildcat of the Month for October 2019.  This fall, Katie will attend the University of Tennessee at Martin, where she will study Elementary Education.

Katie says, "After graduating from college, I want to become an elementary school teacher.  Being a teacher has always been my dream. Growing up, I would always come home to teach "my students" the same thing that I had learned in school that day. Within the past couple of years, I have volunteered my time at the elementary school. For 3 years now, I went to teach Vacation Bible School in Memphis. I also have babysat a pre-k little boy to help him get ready for school and take him there.  I can't wait to see the excitement on kid's faces when I teach them.  Teaching little boys and girls the basics will be very rewarding!"

The faculty and staff at Wayne County High School congratulate Katie for earning this scholarship, and extend our heartfelt thanks to the Wayne County Retired Teachers Association for their continued support of our students!
